Run

“Scientific evidence shows polar bears have to travel up to 250km extra to survive. So this became my running distance and I wanted to do it in the Arctic, the land of polar bears.”
Pau Capell
“The consequences of climate change are already being felt all over the world, though they aren't uniform. But there is probably one place in the world where we feel the impacts of climate change even more than in other places, and that is the Arctic.”
Heidi Sevestre, Glaciologist

“When I arrived in Alta I was really overwhelmed by the cold and the challenge ahead. Something about the environment made me feel that every kilometre would be difficult to overcome. So I started to get a little afraid.”
Pau Capell
Human activities have led to 1°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels.

“It gets really cold as soon as dusk falls. And dusk falls early up here at this time of year. It would be easy to run elsewhere, but I like to challenge myself, to push my limit, to enjoy the rough and wild beauty of Arctic winters, as long as they still exist.”
Pau Capell
1.5°C is the level at which we need to keep global warming if we are to avoid catastrophic change.

“The Arctic is more than just ice and snow - incredible spaces and amazing landscapes that testify to the resilience of these communities and the wonderful, hospitable, warm people that you meet on the way.”
Pau Capell
Over the past 20 years, the Arctic temperature has increased twice as much as the rest of the world.

“We are tightly connected to the Arctic and we know that if we do not act now, the Arctic could increase in temperature at about five to 10 degrees by the end of the century. Imagine if the Arctic warms up so quickly. What will happen to us here? Back in Europe, back in the US?”
Heidi Sevestre, Glaciologist
Global sea levels could rise by 24-32cm by 2050.

“71° 10' 21" N, 25° 47' 40" E. Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Europe. It has been tough: when I started out in Alta I was really surprised by the cold. The idea of running in such conditions for five days was a bit daunting. Then I started running, and here we are.”
Pau Capell
We have just one decade to act, to cut our emissions and change our actions, if we are to keep global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Climate Care
Five metric tonnes of CO2 were used in the production of this film, all of which we will offset.
And we'll continue to take tangible action against climate change.
