Sometimes injuries are opportunities and this was certainly the case with Pau. Having sustained a serious injury playing soccer in 2012 – where he damaged his knee and ligaments, the doctors suggested that he run and train in the mountains to help with the recovery and strengthen the muscles. This is where his trail running career began and in 2013 Pau began competing in ultra-trails - immediately showing a natural talent for the discipline.
In 2013, just a year after he suffered the knee injury, Pau raced and won his first ever trail event, whilst also competing in triathlons, duathlons and the Barcelona Marathon, which he completed in just 2 hours 58 minutes. In 2014 he started to compete regularly in longer ultra-running events (80 and 100 km) and claimed seven victories. He found he excelled the longer the distance and the tougher the race, and in 2014 he stormed to victory in the Ultra Sierra Nevada (103 km) and in the Ultra Trail Mallorca (112 km). So far, 2016 has been his best season to date, with victories in both the TDS du Mont Blanc in Chamonix (120 km) and the Ultra-Trail Australia (100 km). However, in 2017 he also won the Trans Gran Caneria.
“I love to run and I love to train”, says Pau, “I enjoy the peace of it and not having to think after a long day of work. But during the race, when I get tired, I think of my family, my girlfriend and my friends - they are my team and organise everything. Without them I would not be able to do what I do and I wouldn’t enjoy it as much.”

- Philosophy: I love to run alone, but I need to have my family and girlfriend with me in spirit to truly enjoy it.
- What inspires you: The drive to Improve for every race and be the best, although it’s not easy and sometimes you can’t achieve more than the race before, it’s what drives me forward.
